I have been feeling like making a movie for couple of days. so here is the deal, let’s do an ALL INDIA FRAG MOVIE, we haven’t had one in a long time i guess.Send me the BEST FRAGS you have. Here are the points you should take care when sending ur entries.

1. Only demos from clan matches will be accepted. 5 on 5, with proper team tags, online or LAN doesn’t matter, (POVS /HLTV). A player can send multiple entries. Deagle shots, spams or any weird stuff is also welcomed, and especially bloopers that I can use in video exit .

2. Make a notepad file and put the view demo timings of the kills.
For example u got 4 kills at 24 the minute. put it like 4 AWP kills at 24th minute( use viewdemo to check frag timings )
save the notepad file.

3. Zip/Rar the demo + the notepad file , name it like playername_no_of_kills like Nemesis_4AWP KILLS.zip

4.  Mail it to amitojduggal at gmail com (writing my email id this way to protect spam from advertisement bots ) , In case the file size is too large, upload it to some online storage website, like mediafire.com, and email the link.

5. Recheck above 4 points

Please Treat this as High Priority, inform you friends/Team Mates/Lan mates. i will put any frag that is good irrespective of the player name, as no one is a priority for me!

i been keeping seriously busy with work these days, my x264 encoding tutorial is still unfinished, so many settings to take care of. Hoping i will finish it sooner.

i have been asked quite alot of time about the graphics card settings that i use for moviemaking and also for normal gaming. so here are my settings, i use Nvidia 8800GT, so the settings might differ if you are using another graphics card, but must surely be having alternatives.

Browse down to Control Panel> Nvidia Control Panel | Manage 3d Settings

we are going to manipulate The ” Global Settings” here, the similar can be done with settings for specific “Programs”, but global settings are better when you play a good amount of games, or use software like 3dmax, maya, or cinema 4d. though most of the games now a days have their own 3d control panel to set values for anti aliasing, but you can alternatively set it global, that suits well for most of the games.

Settings for Normal Gaming :
the game i m focusing here is off-course our favorite ” Counter Strike”, if you have been playing with default graphics card settings for sometime, you will be surprised how some settings can make the game interesting and improves the overall gameplay.

i remember when i first switched from normal settings to these, my gameplay improved a little when it comes to counter strike, cause the depth is improved by changing anti aliasing settings,  the things far off appear better, better vision, better headshots lol.

Settings for Movie making:
Precaution: These settings are hardware intensive, only use these settings when you are taking screen shots using “start movie” or using fraps for recording game footage.

After these settings you will be surprised to see how sharper things look within the game, and thats what we actually need in movies, the boxes edges will look sharper, the distances will look clearer.

i know its been a long time since i wrote the first encoding guide, the episode 1 : encoding guide in WMV,  Glad that everyone liked it . So i am back here with a more complicated codec called XVID, probably an successor of DIVX ( written in reverse).

i dont remember using XVID much, cause i was kinda lazy to first export the file as uncompressed avi and then encode it seperately using virtual dub , so i used to just output it as WMV, which i still like alot though. But lets try something different now. I am going to tell you how its actually done in a proper way, so that we can achieve the best possible quality on a given bit rate.

Lets get started,
the tools u will b needing are :

Virtual Dub
Sony Vegas(Recommeded, or any editing program will do)
Xvid Codec (Mandatory)
Huffyuv Codec ( Recommended, since it saves you alot of disk space)

After u r finished installing all of these, lets get started. Though i already assume you have already finished editing stuff in your editing program like sony vegas, after effects or any other.
Our render process will be like this:

Sony Vegas ——> Render As————> Uncompressed Avi ( using Huffyuv )
Uncompressed Avi ————–> Render Using Virtual Dub ————–> to Xvid

i assume that u have finished editing ur video in vegas, as far as the example goes i will b using the screens from a clip edit i did for my friend Dante , his superb clarion ace on dust2.

now lets start the process: go to File > Render As , now as told in the process we will just b using vegas to export the file as Uncompressed Avi using Huffyuv codec . Make the settings as below :

Now i wont recommend using the default settings for render, lets do something more customized, click  CUSTOM button right in front of the template list.

Project Tab : Video rendering Quality: Set to Best
Video Tab : Make the setting as In the screen below.

Click CONFIGURE button in front of Video Format  and make settings as below

click OK.
AUDIO Tab :  the default settings r just fine, we r going to compress the audio anyways, so dont need to worry here.

CLick OK , and save ur AVI file to any location.

Rendering to XVID using Virtual DUB :

start virtual dub, which ever version u have, but virtual dub different versions have different locations of menu items , but i guess that wont b that big of an issue, i m using version 1.9.3 at the time of writing this tutorial .

go to FILE > OPEN video file and open the uncompressed or huffyuv compressed file in vdub. it will appear in the video preview panel vdub has, u can browse through the video here and check how good the quality of uncompressed avi is , our aim in encoding is to achieve the nearest possible quality to uncompressed.

Now for the main step go to Video > COMPRESSION

Browse down to the list, to XVID MPEG-4 Codec , and click on Configure button. Now for the main stuff :

Just pay really careful attention to all the setting we r going to do here, first of all we will be going for a Two pass Encoding and not a single pass one, reason: we get better quality this way. two pass encoding is done in 2 steps, first we need to manually run a ” Two pass – 1st pass” and after that the second one.

Make sure u select

Make sure u select :

Profile @ level : Unrestricted
Encoding type : twopass – 1st Pass
Quality Preset : User Defined

Now click More button in front of Profile @ level and make the changes as given in the picture above

then at the bottom , Quality Present, click More, in Motion Tab

and in the quantization tab:

click ok, we r finished with the profiling .

click ok once more and then 1 more OK

Now we r back to vdub main UI, go to File , and look fo something called, save as queue or add to queue, in my vdub version its in File > Queue Batch Operation > Save as avi,

now wait, this didnt start any render ?? right ?? , good we r on track, actually this process adds the first pass to render queue, this will get more cleare in the next step

now again go to : Video compression, select Xvid ,and click configure
now we need to  queue in a 2nd pass. make sure u have selected twopass- 2nd pass in encoding type .

and for the bitrate i m using 5000 kbps,m make sure the units r set to kbps and not kbytes, if its kbytes, click on tht button once, and then input 5000 as bitrate in KBPS.
bitrate will vary according to ur resolution , i used 960 x 600 i used 5 M and it gives fair enough file size with good quality, if ur resolution is more, keep bitrate high.

we r finished, click ok,
and go to File > Queue Batch Operation > Save as avi AGAIN, this will add another job in the queue, after 1 pass its going to run another pass over it.

once u have done that,

select job control from file menu or press F4, and click on start, and save the file, make sure u save the file at any other location and not with the uncompressed file, else it will get replaced, very childish error, but shud b avoided.

its going to take some time to render based on the size of ur file, booomm, we have encoded our movie as XVID ….

the bug was in doctype specifications… so just incase u also encounter the problem of website looking bad in Internet explorer, just put the document type specification at the top of ur html !!! that will solve the issue. in my case i added..

Welcome to the new series of articles that i am going to present in upcoming posts on the website, this is called ” Code the Video ” , encoding the video after post production or editing is one of the most important parts of all editing work. When rendering your video from You production software you must be aware of what bit rate ( bits per second ) is actually required for proper conservation of the quality, without making the size too large for viewers to stream of download.

In today’s episode of ” Code the Video” ,  i am going to guide you about how to encode any video edit into WMV ( Windows Media Video). Encoding in wmv is one the easiest things to do, but you just need to be careful with bit rate and some other settings. i have used wmv encoding for most of my videos, until recently only i have started using x264 , which i am going to explain in my future posts. So, Lets get started !!

The software example i am using here is of Sony Vegas, other softwares have similar settings too, so its very basic. After you have finished making your  project in sony vegas, added effects, and your now ready to show it to the world.

Go to File > Render As  , you will be greeted with a window having basic settings for selecting the encoding type ,

Give your file a NAME
Select ” WINDOWS MEDIA VIDEO v 9″ from the list, if you don’t find it in the list there, you might not have installed wmv codec on your pc, download some codec pack, or just google it for wmv codec.

3rd option below that is template, select ” Default Template” and click ” Custom” bottom in front of that, now we will be making custom settings for our edit ! .

On the first tab called  ” Project ” , select render setting to be ” BEST “.

Now move to the next tab ” Audio ” , Make sure include audio is checked , Make the settings like , MODE : CBR , Format : Windows Media Audio 9.2 ( or can even b 8 or 7 ) , Attributes : 128 kbps, 44khz

Next Tab is Very Important one, Video, now i have done my homework, have experimented with all of those options in the ” Mode”, the one that works very effectively and easily is ” BIT RATE VBR ” , select that from the list for MODE.  now in

FORMAT , you should select somewhere between ” 7-9″ version of WMV , i generally set it to ” windows media video v 9 ” .

Image size :  Keep Original Size

Pixel Ratio:  1:00

FPS : this should generally be some multiple of the frames you recorded video at, for example if you recorded it at 60 or 90 fps, you should use 30 from the options, and if you have recorded at 50 or 100, use 25. i have set it to 30 in my case.

Seconds Per frame: let it be default 3

Average Bit Rate : This is the most important part of rendering , this will determine the quality of your video render actually.

for a video with resolution : 1024 x 768 , set it somewhere over 6 M

for 800 x 600 Make it 5M

For a high definition video, keep it around 8M

My video is 800 x 600 so i m keeping 5 M as the bit rate.

Phewwww, you are done with all the major settings for the video render. now go at the very top, in the description part, remove all those details, and put something cool in there , like my render settings, or something like that, and above in template, just click and write ” My Config” or anything you can remember, and click the save icon just in front of that.

Your done with the settings, just click OK at the bottom , this will send you bank to the video save options. now make sure you have checked ” stretch video to fit output frame size ” , and just click save.

There you have it, your video properly encoded in WMV.
